Do you need a driving permit to rent a car in St Lucia?
The short answer
Yes. A visiting driver needs a Saint Lucia temporary driving permit as well as a valid licence from home. It is a legal requirement, not a rental company upsell, and driving without one leaves you uninsured if anything happens.
You do not need to find an office
We issue the permit at the counter when you collect the car. It costs USD 23 and it is added to your rental, so there is no separate trip to a police station or a licensing office and nothing to arrange before you fly. Bring the licence you drive on at home and we handle the rest.
What to bring
Your own current driving licence, the credit card in the main driver's name, and your passport. If your licence is not in English, bring an International Driving Permit alongside it. The permit we issue is tied to the licence you present, so the person collecting the car has to be the person who will drive it.
Additional drivers
Every driver needs their own permit, so an additional driver pays the USD 23 as well as the USD 10 per day additional driver charge. Add them at the counter with their licence present.
