How far is Hewanorra from the resorts?
The distance is real and worth planning for
Hewanorra sits at the southern tip of the island near Vieux Fort, and the hotels most visitors book are in the north west around Rodney Bay, Gros Islet and Castries. That is roughly ninety minutes of driving on a road that is scenic and slow rather than fast. Nobody enjoys discovering this at the arrivals hall.
What the alternatives cost
A private taxi transfer is generally quoted between USD 50 and USD 100 each way depending on the vehicle and the destination, so a return transfer for a family adds up quickly, and it leaves you without a car for the rest of the week. A helicopter transfer exists and costs considerably more.
Why most people end up renting
Over a typical stay, an Economy or Compact SUV rental for the week costs less than the return transfer alone, and it turns the drive north into the first proper look at the island rather than a chore. You also get to Soufriere, Marigot Bay and the east coast on your own schedule.
